huffpost – Trump told Tell-All writers he refuses masks to look strong and impenetrable

Donald Trump admitted to the authors of a revealing new book that he flouted his own government’s guidelines and did not consistently wear a mask to protect himself from COVID-19 because he feared it would make him weak.

The former president told Washington Post reporters Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker “the importance in his mind to look strong, to look healthy, to look impenetrable,” Leonnig told MSNBC’s Ali Velshi on Tuesday.

Trump ended up contracting the coronavirus himself in October 2020 and was hospitalized for three days. At one point, his oxygen levels dropped until the 1980s. Normal levels range from 95% to 100%.

“I will tell you that we learned in our report that the chief of staff, Mark Meadows at the time, had advised the medical and political advisers, ‘No way, he can’t wear a mask, he’s already dug on that he can’t do it, because his base will fundamentally rebel, ”Leonnig said.

Leonnig and Rucker’s film “I Alone Can Fix It”: Donald J. Trump’s Last Disastrous Year was released on Tuesday.
