huffpost – Man rescued after 2 days trapped inside giant fan in California Vineyard

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) – Authorities rescued a man who said he was trapped for two days inside a large fan at a vineyard in northern California.

The man was discovered Tuesday by an assistant responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle parked near the cellar in Santa Rosa, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The deputy saw a hat on farm equipment and then found the man trapped in the handle of a vine blower. The firefighters rescued him.

“The man said he enjoyed taking pictures of engines on old farm equipment,” the statement said. “After extensive investigation, which revealed that farm equipment was not antique and that humans had far more meth than photographic equipment, the motivation to climb the fan shaft remains a total mystery.”

The 38-year-old needed medical treatment but is expected to make a full recovery, the office said.

The man will be charged with trespassing and drug possession, as well as violations of a probation case, the statement said.

Vineyard fans are used to circulate air through the vines to keep the grapes from freezing during the colder months.
