George Floyd’s 7-year-old daughter delivered a heartbreaking message during her father’s murderer conviction on Friday, telling the judge through a video message what she wished she could still do with her father.
“I want to play with him, have fun, take a plane ride,” said Gianna Floyd when asked what she would do if she was reunited with her father, who was killed by the former policeman. from Minneapolis Derek Chauvin a little over a year ago. after the officer knelt on his neck for over 9 minutes, Floyd repeatedly said he couldn’t breathe.
“I ask about him all the time,” Gianna said.
“I ask how my father got hurt.”
She also shared her nightly routine with her father.
“We used to have mints every night before we went to bed,” she said with a smile. “My dad always helped me brush my teeth. “
If there was anything she could say to him, Gianna said, “I would miss you and love her.”
The 7-year-old’s message was broadcast before Judge Peter Cahill sentenced Chauvin to 22.5 years in prison for the May 25, 2020 murder. Chauvin was convicted in April of second and third murder. degree as well as second degree manslaughter in the death of the 46-year-old black man.
Shortly after Floyd’s death, as protesters nationwide denounced the murder as the latest example of police brutality against black Americans, Gianna appeared in another viral video commenting on her father’s legacy.
“Daddy changed the world,” she said off the shoulders of NBA veteran Stephen Jackson, a longtime friend of the late Floyd.
