“Saved by the bell,” the former Dustin Diamond was admitted to a Florida hospital after experiencing pain all over his body, a spokesperson told HuffPost on Wednesday.
Diamond, who played geek Screech on the high school sitcom and two follow-up shows between 1989 and 2000, “expects more tests,” including those for cancer, the rep said.
“It doesn’t look good and that’s where we are now,” said the rep, who asked not to be identified. “Next week we’ll really know what’s wrong.”
TMZ initially reported on Diamond’s situation, citing anonymous sources as saying the actor was also experiencing a “sense of unease” and was being tested for serious illness.
Diamond, 44, has been left out of the recent ‘Saved by the Bell’ reboot on Peacock, though former co-star Elizabeth Berkley has kept the door open for a possible Screech return in the future.
“I don’t know if he’ll make an appearance,” Berkley said on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” in November. “We’ll see. If there’s another season.
Diamond allegedly angered his co-stars by writing a critical account which he says has since been tampered with by a ghostwriter. He also had issues with the law, including an arrest and imprisonment in 2014 in connection with a stabbing at a bar. In 2006, he gained notoriety of a different kind, releasing a sex tape called “Screeched”. He later said he used a double body.
“People still despise me today” for the band, he said in an interview in 2014.
