Did Annie see this coming?
Actor Anne Hathaway stopped by “The Tonight Show” on Tuesday to talk about his new movie, “Locked Down,” and apparently dropped a cold, hard truth.
“Can we talk about my name for a second,” she replied to Jimmy Fallon who asked him if he should call her Anne, aka the name everyone knows her by, or Annie.
“Let’s spill the tea,” she added.
The actor went on to tell the story of filming a commercial when she was 14 and needed her SAG card.
“They asked me, ‘What do you want your name to be?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, that should be my name. My name is Anne Hathaway, ”she said. “And so it seemed like the right choice, but I never realized that for the rest of my life people would call me Anne.
Hathaway prefers Annie. Heck, she would probably even prefer people to call her by her “Princess Diaries” character, Mia Thermopolis. She says the only person who actually calls her Anne is her mom, and that’s only when she’s angry.
“Every time I go out in public and someone calls me I think they’re going to yell at me,” she says.
Apparently people normally find workarounds for her name on set, calling her “Ms. H ”and“ Hath ”because Anne just doesn’t fit.
“Call me everything except AnneShe told Fallon.
Gotcha, everything except Anne. For those wondering, the new Anything But Anne movie premieres on HBO Max on January 14.
