How Zidane would set Man Utd squad on fire and make the most of Cristiano Ronaldo as ex-coach reveals manager’s secrets

ZINEDINE ZIDANE would add some enjoyable training sessions at Manchester United and make the most of Cristiano Ronaldo if he replaces Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

That’s according to Zidane’s longtime Real Madrid assistant David Bettoni, who claims Zizou has always wanted to ignite his players by making them want to return to training.

Reports suggest the French head coach is among the candidates to replace Solskjaer, who has come under fire after United’s six losses in 12 matches.

Bettoni told RMC Sport’s After Foot: “We were talking about the principles of the game, how to play the ball, how the team is organized differently.

“But, above all, the phrase that always came to my mind with Zidane was: ‘I want the notion of pleasure to be in all exercises.

“He also added that he wanted the players, when they returned home, to feel like returning to training. This is the first word that marked me from Zizou.

“I can only say that what I lived with him is reality. It is true that Zidane is an atypical coach, [he] is not someone who talks a lot to the media.

“And that’s because he’s like that and doesn’t play the role of a low-key character. He’s always been like that.

“Afterwards, we also felt that he was someone who had been a great player, who had been trained by great coaches and who had said to himself that he wanted to be a coach, so he prepared a lot for that.

“He had a knowledge of football which made him make decisions, the tactics were reserved for his staff and the players.”

If Zidane succeeded Solskjaer in the Old Trafford canoe, he would reunite with Ronaldo, who played under him for two years until he left the Spanish capital in 2018.

Bettoni suggested the former France captain knew exactly how to get the most out of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner by finding out the right way to train him.

He added: “With Cristiano Ronaldo, you had to be clear and precise. He had to know the reasons why he was doing a specific exercise.

“I have an anecdote. When we played for Bayern [Munich], I told him not to just focus on [Manuel] Neuer, but on strategic targets in the exercise cages. I wondered why I was telling him that. “
