HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Houston Police said a uniformed policewoman who occupied an extra security position at a Home Depot was dragged about 100 feet by the vehicle of a theft suspect on Wednesday.

Police said the officer fired at least one shot as she was dragged by the vehicle backing into the parking lot in the Gulf Freeway and Woodridge area at around 10:20 a.m. Police added that the The officer was holding the passenger side door of the suspect’s vehicle.

The officer, who was not immediately identified, was sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Prior to the confrontation in the parking lot, police said the suspect was confronted by the store’s loss prevention officer when it was discovered he tried to push his cart outside without paying, which which ended in a scramble between the two.

Following the incident, police released footage of the man who they claimed stole the store’s construction cable and subsequently injured the officer. He has not yet been arrested.

Police were not immediately clear whether the suspect had been hit by the gunfire.
