Herschel Walker campaign fires political director amid abortion payment allegations

Herschel Walker’s campaign has fired its political director as the Republican Senate candidate from Georgia faces a fire after The daily beast reported that he paid for a girlfriend’s abortion in 2009, CNN reported.

The campaign fired Taylor Crowe, who previously worked on former Sen. David Perdue’s failed primary challenge against incumbent Republican Gov. Brian Kemp. Former President Donald Trump backed the campaign of Mr Walker and Mr Perdue over his criticism that Mr Kemp refused to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

The Independent has contacted Mr Walker about the allegation. But it has sent his campaign against incumbent Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock into a slump as the former University of Georgia running back has previously said he opposes abortion and does not support any exceptions for rape, incest or the life of the mother.

Mr. Walker and Mr. Warnock will face off in their only scheduled debate a week from today in Savannah.

The non-partisan Cook Political Report calls the race a “heads or tails”.

Mr Walker responded to the allegations during an interview with Tory radio host Hugh Hewitt on Thursday.

“I wasn’t perfect. I had my mental health issues… I have a new life. I moved on,” he said.

“If it had happened I would have said so, because there is nothing to be ashamed of,” he told Mr Hewitt. “You know, people have done this, but I don’t know.”
