‘He doesn’t work a lot’ – Hazard is an incredible player but a ‘horrible’ coach, accuses Mourinho

The Portuguese, who managed the winger during his time at Chelsea, said he could be an even better player if he trained harder

Jose Mourinho hit Eden Hazard, claiming the Real Madrid winger is an incredible player but could be even better if he wasn’t an “awful” coach.

Mourinho coached Hazard for two and a half seasons at Chelsea, a period in which they helped the Blues win the Premier League, the Europa League and the League Cup.

Hazard moved to Real Madrid in 2019, but his € 100million (£ 86million / $ 121million) transfer has yet to result in the midst of a string of injuries.

What was said?

“The truth is what you see of him, he is an incredible player with a horrible training,” Mourinho said in an interview on talkSPORT .

“You can only imagine what he could be like with a super professional attitude in training.

“In the end, he is an incredible child, he is an incredible family man, he seems not to belong to this generation of players, he is very calm and is totally focused on the family, on the children , on parents, on a very calm life.

“But he walks into the field every morning and… he doesn’t work a lot.

“When he steps onto the pitch, you don’t see the reflection of a week’s work, you just see the reflection of his talent.

“He’s an amazing player and you can imagine if he was a top professional. When he went to Real Madrid I was like, ‘Wow this guy is going to the biggest club in the world and is going to feel this huge pressure to always be on top, this guy is going to win the Golden Ball, because he’s amazing. ‘

“But in terms of fitness, speed, condition, he would be a much better player. [if he trained properly]. What you are seeing is just the talent that brought Eden to where he is. “

Mourinho supports Hazard at Euro 2020

Hazard, long a vital figure for Belgium, has been used off the bench in his country’s two opening matches at Euro 2020.

The 30-year-old is slowly brought in after another injury season with Madrid, but Mourinho has backed him up to finally show his best in the tournament.

“In this case he’s back in Belgium, back on the big stage, you can feel he has a good relationship with Roberto Martinez, but he’s on the bench right now,” Mourinho said.

“But he will be ready to jump in to win watches, so I think Belgium will end the Euro with Eden at the start and probably at the top of his game.”
