An actor who played the lead role in the Broadway version of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has been fired from his role.

James Snyder, who played Harry Potter, saw his contract terminated on Sunday evening after a complaint was filed against him by an actress in the cast.

An independent investigation has been carried out into allegations made by Diane Davis, who plays his wife Ginny on the show, after she filed a conduct complaint in November last year.

The specific allegations made against Snyder have not been disclosed.

The producers said in a statement: “Immediately upon receiving this complaint, the producers commissioned an independent, third-party investigation, and Mr. Snyder has been suspended pending the completion of the investigation.

“At the end of the investigation, the producers decided that Mr. Snyder should not return to production and terminated his contract.

“We are committed to fostering a safe and inclusive workplace, which is why we have strong workplace policies and procedures in place for everyone involved with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

“This includes strict prohibitions against harassment in any form, as well as channels through which any employee can report conduct they deem inappropriate.

“We will continue to do everything we can to make the extremely talented team bringing this production to life feel safe, empowered and fully supported.”

They added that the complainant, Diane Davis, “made a personal decision to take time off.”

“Out of respect for his privacy – and to maintain the integrity of the investigation – we will not be commenting further on this matter.”

Sky News has contacted representatives for Snyder for comment.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set 19 years after the events of JK Rowling’s last novel in the record-breaking franchise, and won Tony and Olivier awards for its West End and Broadway runs.
