Haaland ready to return after Christmas break in Bundesliga, Dortmund boss Zorc confirms

German title hopefuls look set to welcome their precious asset once again when they face Wolfsburg in the new year.

Erling Haaland will be fit to return after the Bundesliga Christmas vacation, Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc confirmed.

Haaland has scored 17 goals in 14 appearances for Dortmund at the start of the season before being sidelined on injury before the shock of the Champions League with Lazio December 12.

The 20-year-old missed Dortmund’s next six games, including the 2-1 loss to Union Berlin that marked the club’s last Bundesliga game in 2020.

Dortmund have slipped to fifth in the table in Haaland’s absence, eight points behind current leaders and defending champions Bayern Munich.

Lucien Favre paid the price for the team’s poor form when he was relieved of his management role earlier this month, with Edin Terzic stepping in his place on an interim basis.

Terzic received a welcome boost ahead of Dortmund’s return to action against Wolfsburg on January 3, with Haaland now ready to return to the pitch after fully recovering from a muscle problem.

Westfalenstadion boss Zorc, who serves as the main intermediary between the coaching staff and the club’s board, gave a positive update on the Norwegian striker’s fitness on Tuesday.

“The rehabilitation went very well. We assume Erling can play against Wolfsburg again, ”said Zorc BILD.

Haaland has been linked with a significant move from Dortmund after a bright start to life at Germany, with the Premier League duo Manchester United and Manchester city among those linked to an interest in its services.

However, a man who joined Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg for just € 20million (£ 18million / $ 24million) in January insists he’s pretty happy with his current environment and said he wants to play a role in delivering major silverware to the club over the next few years.

“My biggest dream right now is to achieve something with Dortmund and that’s what I’m working for,” Haaland said. DAZN in an interview published on Boxing Day.

“Trying to give that to the club and the fans because everyone in this club deserves it. I will do my best whenever I can.

“The club bought me for a lot of money and the fans can expect me to give 100%. Borussia Dortmund is just the big dream I’m living. I am working to achieve something with BVB. “
