Grizzlies vs Wolves: Memphis beats Minnesota 116-108 for 11th straight win

The Grizzlies won their 11th straight game Thursday night, beating the Minnesota Timberwolves at home, 116-108.

Desmond Bane scored 21 points and Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 20 points and managed five blocks, while John Konchar had a big double-double off the bench with 15 points and 17 rebounds.

The victory extends Memphis’s top franchise winning streak to 11 games and means they have now won 21 of their last 25 games.

“It’s all about the attention to detail,” said Minnesota coach Chris Finch. “It’s all about the little things. It all depends on winning games.… You’re going to be in close games, and it’s going to win you games, and that’s not what we’re doing right now.”

For the Timberwolves, Anthony Edwards scored 30 points, D’Angelo Russell added 29 points with six assists and Karl-Anthony Towns had 25 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

The win is a very different result than when both teams last played, with the Timberwolves knocking out Memphis 138-95 on November 20.

The Grizzlies were actually lagging behind at halftime this time around, but a big third quarter, especially from star point guard Ja Morant, got them back in the race.

Konchar’s overall performance was a big part of the win – and the Grizzlies’ winning run – as the third-year goaltender assisted at both ends of the field.

“He’s just fearless, he’s ready to go after every rebound,” Grizzlies assistant coach Darko Rajaković said after the game.

“He’s still in a good position and has worked a lot with his body. Athletically he has improved over the year.”

The win takes the Grizzlies to 30-14 this season and third in the Western Conference, with a clash against the Dallas Mavericks to come.
