Gaza hospital strike complicates Hamas-Israel war as US military presence increases nearby; Joe Biden will meet Benjamin Netanyahu

There is a Navy carrier battle group in the Mediterranean and another on the way.

That will put more than a dozen U.S. ships, at least 125 U.S. fighter jets, dozens of helicopters and about 10,000 sailors and Marines in position off the coast of Israel and Lebanon.

There are no orders to deploy these American assets in the war between Israel and Hamas, even though Tuesday was the scene of one of the worst incidents of the conflict.

The United States will be available at short notice, if necessary, to assist Israel, one of its closest allies.

Once the two aircraft carrier groups, including their accompanying battleships, are in place, an additional 2,000 U.S. troops, both stateside and abroad, will be ready to deploy to the Middle East if necessary . This group includes intelligence officers, support personnel and medical units.

Javed Ali, a former senior US counterterrorism official and professor at the University of Michigan, believes it is a significant show of force.

“The firepower alone of the aircraft carrier is significant… and around them are destroyers, cruisers. Each of them has the capacity to launch cruise missiles or other munitions of large size on targets, but I don’t think it will “That’s the role of the United States here. These ships serve more to protect the aircraft carrier than to launch offensive operations against Hezbollah, or to reinforce the Israeli ground campaign in the Gaza Strip if that actually happens,” Ali told the ABC7 I-Team Chicago.

Complicating the conflict is this: an explosion in a Gaza hospital on Tuesday, leaving hundreds dead and Israel and Hamas blaming each other for responsibility. The latest carnage and conflicting accusations come as President Joe Biden heads to Israel.

“Palestinian civilians have already been caught in the crossfire. This infrastructure in Gaza, we’ve all seen the photos, has really been hit hard and damaged. And, if the ground campaign begins, the situation will only get worse, unfortunately.” And that’s why I think buying time to keep more people out of direct danger is a good thing. But, tragically, there will probably be more events like what happened today, whether it’s an Israeli strike, there are conflicts. “There are also reports of Hamas control orders. It’s so hard to know what the reality is,” Ali said.

Israelis strongly blame “Islamic jihadists” for the hospital explosion, citing an uncontrolled rocket. The Israel Defense Forces have released audio and video recordings that they say confirm this was a botched Hamas attack.

Meanwhile, following the hospital explosion, Middle East leaders canceled their meetings with Biden. The president is still scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
