A member of one of the most famous gangs in the United States was sentenced Tuesday to 40 years in prison for his role as executor, which included a bullet in the chest of a minor for interrupting the filming of a gang rap video. He is the latest accused in a case against the Gangster Disciples, the Department of Justice announced Thursday.
The sentence for Lewis Mobley, a 45-year-old from Atlanta, comes after a trial jury found him guilty of RICO conspiracy, attempted racketeering murder and using a gun during this attempted murder.

“For decades, Gangster Disciples have destroyed communities all over the United States,” Acting US Attorney Kurt Erskine said. “The gang’s criminal activities in Atlanta included the murder of innocent people, brazen shootings and prolific drug trafficking. These horrific acts and the lost and injured victims will not be soon forgotten. “
Mobley is the 38th member of the Gangster Disciples to be sentenced since April 2016. Some will spend at least eight months in prison, while others have been sentenced for decades, the Justice Department said. In addition to the prison sentence, some prisoners will pay thousands of dollars in restitution to victims.
Since the 1970s, the Gangster Disciples have served as a very structured gang, with roots in Chicago that have spread across the country. The gang has strict rules prohibiting members from cooperating with law enforcement, and violators were regularly fined, beaten and murdered, the Justice Department said.
