Fuel prices: Bercy receives service station managers about selling at a loss

Bruno Le Maire tried to reassure small independent service stations the day after the announcement of the authorization of the sale of fuel at a loss. He promised support to compensate for the losses.

On Tuesday, September 19, Bruno Le Maire received the managers of small independent service stations in Bercy in order to reassure them about the implementation of the sale of fuel at a loss. “It was with a closed face that we saw the director leave SU system this morning, after 1h15 meeting with Bruno Le Maire”reports journalist Jordan Klein, on duplex from the Ministry of Finance. Intermarché, Leclerc, but also Carrefour were invited to talk about selling fuel at a loss.

Obtain commitments from distributors

The issue was to talk about the price “but also to know to what extent the system of selling at a loss can reduce the price at the pump”adds Jordan Klein. But distributors have a lot to lose by lowering fuel prices by a few cents. “The other issue is to to attempt to have commitments from distributors”continues the journalist. Indeed, commitments are necessary to bring prices down. A bill must be discussed and adopted in Parliament.
