fourth stage victory for Frenchman Arnaud Démare

Arnaud Démare is insatiable. The rider of the Groupama-FDJ team once again won the sprint, Wednesday 14 October, on the Giro d’Italia, this time in Rimini, on the Adriatic coast, at the finish of the 11e step. This is the fourth victory since the start of the Giro of the champion of France – well taken in his sprint by the “train” of the Groupama -, who clearly ahead of the finish line the Slovakian Peter Sagan, winner the day before, and Colombian Alvaro Hodeg.

Arnaud Démare is the first Frenchman since Bernard Hinault, who also won the general classification in 1982, to win four stages in the same Giro. Picard, 29, now has 75 victories to his list, including 14 for the current season alone. He brought his total of Giro stages to five after his success in 2019. Not selected for the 2020 Tour de France, Démare is undoubtedly the best sprinter of the season.

The Portuguese Joao Almeida (Deceuninck) kept the leader’s pink jersey after 182 kilometers of lowland along the Adriatic. Thursday, the 12e stage takes again the rough roads, with five climbs listed in the hinterland of Romagna, of the cyclosportive of “Nove Colli”. The start and finish are scheduled in Cesenatico, the city of the “Pirate” Marco Pantani, the winner of the Giro and the 1998 Tour who died in 2004.
