The Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth has been named the best school of osteopathy in the country, according to a statement.
US News and World Report’s annual list of top medical schools for primary care placed the school at the top of the United States for the second year in a row.
The schools of osteopathy, from which Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (known as DO) graduate, supplement the curriculum of the traditional medical school with tactile diagnoses and treatment of health problems. It is commonly called a more holistic approach to medicine and ODs are not required to have a specialty.
TCOM is part of several graduate programs that make up the Health Sciences Center at the University of North Texas at Fort Worth (HSC).
TCOM was also ranked 57th best medical school in the country, up 15 places from 2020.
The School of Osteopathic Medicine was ranked # 52 nationally and # 2 in the state of Texas for graduates practicing in rural areas and # 64 nationally with 2012-14 graduates practicing healthcare direct to patients in areas of shortage of health professionals.
