Tom Nichols scored a brace as Crawley rocked title-seeking Forest Green with a 2-1 away win in Sky Bet League Two.
Nichols jumped in every half after Forest Green substitute Jake Young drew the level of the home side after the break to stretch Crawley’s unbeaten run to seven and end the undefeated eight-game streak. by Rovers.
The home side entered the game knowing a win would put them in the lead after leaders Newport saw their game with Exeter postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
An explosive start saw Crawley nab Forest Green back with Nichols on fire within two minutes with just Luke McGee to beat.
The rovers hit the self-destruct button after 16 minutes as Captain Carl Winchester passed to Crawley’s Jake Hessenthaler who picked Nichols to run and plant the ball past McGee.
Jamille Matt glanced at a teasing Nicky Cadden cross five minutes into the second half as the Rovers sought an equalizer.
Young equalized after 51 minutes for Rovers as Glenn Morris could only glove his deflected free kick before slipping out of the net.
Nichols scored the winner and his second with 11 minutes remaining as he finished confidently of an assist from Jack Powell for his 10th goal of the season.
