Canelo was one of the first to start boxing at just 13, but it seems he wants to give his son even more of a head start in the sport.
Footage emerged recently of the Mexican in the gym on the pads with his three-year-old son, teaching him an uppercut, left hook, right hand combination.
Canelo also takes the time to teach his son the technique of throwing a straight cross, turning his shoulder around in the shot.
It’s not uncommon to see sons following in their fathers’ footsteps in the boxing world and some have enjoyed considerable success.
There is the example of Tyson Fury who completely surpassed the achievements of his father John Fury, who did not even win a title in the central zone, while “The Gypsy King” won all the belts in the division heavy weights.
Another top duo, who may soon be fighting, are Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn, whose fathers Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn had a fierce rivalry in the early 1990s.
As for Canelo, he can’t spend too much time training his son as he has to put in the work himself to prepare for his upcoming trilogy fight with Gennady Golovkin on September 17.
Coming off just the second loss of his career to Dmitry Bivol in May, Canelo will be looking to bounce back in style against longtime rival Golovkin.
The pair have met twice before, with the first fight controversially ending in a draw, with many fans and pundits believing ‘GGG’ did enough to win, while the rematch saw Canelo achieve a majority decision victory.
