Flooring Porter received a fabulous header from Jonathan Moore to win the Leopardstown Christmas Hurdle.
Completed for the Grade One who easily won a handicap last time around, Moore judged his fractions perfectly ahead on board Gavin Cromwell’s five-year-old.
Having made a good pace on the first circuit with the peloton well distributed behind him, he looked like a sitting duck as French Dynamite, Sire Du Berlais and The Storyteller all seemed to be doing well again, while the favorite Fury Road was under pressure.
Moore asked Flooring Porter to accelerate until the last run, and the 11-1 shot responded in style as he cleared The Storyteller six lengths, with Sire De Berlais still three quarters long. back in third.
Cromwell’s winner was introduced in the bet at 12-1 for Betfair’s Stayers’ Hurdle.
The winning manager was represented by Feidhlim Cunningham, who said: “There has been a huge improvement in him.
“He’s a good southpaw. Obviously he won the 90,000 Euro Category B handicap at Navan and he was good that day.
“Fair play for the owners. We suggested complementing it for that and they supported us. They put the money where they have been and it is quite profitable.
“He’s really improved and Gavin has done a great job with him.
“Johnny gave him a peach again – it was a similar trick to Navan because he was breathing at the right time.
“We’re absolutely thrilled with that. It would have to be said that Cheltenham would be on the agenda now and we’re thrilled to have the first year winner.”
