Five things to know about the program of Vieilles Charrues 2023 – Vieilles Charrues

1 Headliners
“We are very happy with this program! It is one of the best in the history of the Plows, if not the best! says Jérôme Tréhorel, director of the Vieilles Charrues festival, which will take place from July 13 to 17, 2023 in Carhaix (29). The tone is set ! 72 artists will ignite the Kerampuilh meadow this summer! Among them, Blur, Robbie Williams, Rosalía, Phoenix, Lomepal, Soprano, Shaka Ponk, Gazo, or even Aya Nakamura. “This is the first time that we have welcomed Robbie Williams,” says Jean-Jacques Toux, programmer. He will celebrate his 25-year career at Carhaix”, also a great first for the British from Blur. Shaka Ponk will also be there for his farewell tour. Just like the Rennes rapper Lorenzo who recently announced that he wanted to end his career.
Programmer Jeanne Rucet does not hide her enthusiasm for Rosalía’s visit: “She’s THE queen! “We’ve been trying to hook him for a long time.” We fought for it! adds Jean-Jacques Toux.
2 The DNA of Les Charrues: eclecticism
From pop to electro, through rock, rap, or French song, there should be something for everyone! “It’s never easy each year to offer the most complete program possible… But we’re happy with the result, it’s going to be great”, assures Jeanne Rucet. It must be said that between Paul Kalkbrenner, “big dancing machine” (dixit Jean-Jacques Toux) and Stuffed Foxes, “the future of rock in France” (still according to Jean-Jacques), the gap (musical) is wide … Without forgetting, of course, the nuggets of the “small” Gwernig scene.
3 The funfair in the spotlight
This new edition will be placed under the theme of the carnival, “symbol of a large popular gathering, just like the Vieilles Charrues”, indicates Jeanne Rucet who promises “full of surprises”. Like every year, festival-goers are invited to dress up in their finest costumes.
4 Five Days of Feast
Once is not custom: this year, the party will continue until Monday, with an exceptional (full) concert by the Californians of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The programmers are working on the programming of this additional day. Four or five concerts should be programmed. “There will be a closing group of the Red Hot”, assures Jean-Jacques. The reason is simple: “To prevent 60,000 people leaving the site at the same time…”, adds the programmer. If since 2006, the festival takes place over four days, note that in 1999, festival-goers had the right to six days of concerts!
