Police claim to be in possession of the “lead projectile” fired by the weapon used by actor Alec Baldwin when he accidentally shot and killed a director of photography on the set of his new film, Rust.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said the projectile is suspected to be a live projectile, but cannot be confirmed until further testing is done.

About 500 rounds were recovered from the set, the sheriff said, adding that it was still too early to say whether criminal charges would be filed.

Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed and director Joel Souza was hospitalized after a gun Baldwin was holding discharged on the set of Rust last Thursday.

The bullet that killed Ms Hutchins was recovered from Mr Souza’s shoulder, Sheriff Mendoza said.

Mr Souza, who is now recovering after discharge from hospital, was standing behind Ms Hutchins when she was shot in the chest after the firearm was unloaded.

It comes after what is thought to have been the final image of Halyna Hutchins was released yesterday.

He shows her standing in front of Baldwin before the actor accidentally shoots her on the set of the western Rust.

The 42-year-old cinematographer can be seen wearing a beanie with headphones and his back to the camera, while Baldwin can be seen in a costume.

Court documents reveal that Baldwin was rehearsing when he slipped the gun over his body and pointed it at a camera.
