FC Lorient. A good point for the defense in Nice – FC Lorient
“We are happy, we looked them in the eye. We are progressing”, was satisfied with Laurent Abergel after the draw won in Nice (1-1) after a two-sided encounter: a first hour when FC Lorient extinguished the Aiglons while scoring thanks to a beautiful inspiration from Le Fée relayed by Faivre for Méité (0-1, 30′) and a much more complicated end to the match where he logically ended up giving in.
“At the start of the season, no one could have thought that we would be able to compete with Nice in this way on matchday 28, with the changes made during the transfer window and the injuries we suffered. It was therefore very interesting and satisfying to see this first period and even around 60-70 minutes, ”also savored his coach Régis Le Bris.
“More and more consistent” defensively
The turbulent mercato of Les Merlus is probably not yet completely digested but, undoubtedly, FC Lorient has resumed its march forward with five points in three games. FCL is once again able to stand up to the best team in Ligue 1 in 2023 (47% possession). Notably thanks to his defensive progress. “On this level, we are more and more consistent. We’ve conceded few goals lately. This is no coincidence. There is the idea of doing things together and, tactically, things are becoming more refined, ”also noted the Lorient coach.
Three goals conceded in seven games
Also rewarded for his progress with his first goal in Ligue 1, Bamo Méité, who replaces a Laporte still in the infirmary, is clearly gaining momentum. But it is obviously teamwork that has allowed FC Lorient to concede only three goals in seven games, including only one in Nice. “It was important to control Boudaoui who gives a lot of speed to the game. Our attackers did a great job to be able to limit his influence and reduce the spaces. They need very, very little to score,” greeted a coach, for example, also noting: “We managed to contain their transitions but over the duration of the match, Nice has a workforce that has extremely strong physical qualities. Like, we still lack a little control, it ends up costing: our block is retreating and the situations are multiplying in our area ”. On one of them, Laborde, long weaned from good balls, ended up having one within six meters. And that’s a draw (1-1, 77 ‘).
A new problem arose at the very end of the match: the right side Silva collected two yellow cards in quick succession, synonymous with exclusion. And especially suspension while the holder Kalulu will remain unavailable for several weeks. This did not worry Régis Le Bris. “It’s a shame, I thought Igor was coming back well. But I think that we will find solutions without problem”.
