FARO, YUKON – New mayor of Faro, YT says he can confirm “multiple injuries” after RCMP said they were investigating reports of gunfire in the small community.
Jack Bowers did not say how many people were injured, but said there had been an “active shooting” in the city of 400 people.
RCMP said a “possible suspect” had been identified and an arrest had been made in the town, located about a four-hour drive northeast of Whitehorse.
Police have lifted a shelter in place but are warning residents to stay away from several streets in the community.
They say there is a significant number of first responders and police presence in the city.
The order to take shelter was posted on social media around 1 p.m. and was canceled 90 minutes later.
