Fantasy Injury Updates: Latest on Russell Wilson, Rob Gronkowski, Chris Carson, Plus Affecting the Week 10 Leaderboard

Russell Wilson, Rob Gronkowski, Chris Carson, Antonio Brown and Logan Thomas were all out last week, but they probably wouldn’t have played anyway as they all got injured. As week 10 approaches, it’s unclear how many will adjust. All of them are big hitters at their respective positions, so the latest injury updates will have a big impact on the fantastic Week 10 standings.

WEEK 10 WAIVER WIRE: The Best Microphones

Russell Wilson Injury Update

UPDATE: Wilson was allowed to play during week 10 and hinted that he would be back for Sunday’s game against the Packers.

Wilson (finger) could return from the IR as early as this week against Green Bay, so his fantastic owners will be watching his status closely heading into the weekend. There haven’t been many reports of his recovery since suffering the original injury, but we’ll update this article as more news arrives. Even with injury issues, Wilson would be in the game as QB1 if he plays.

If he’s out, Geno Smith will be our QB27 this week. Green Bay suddenly looks strong on defense and is in the top 10 against fantastic quarterbacks.

Rob Gronkowski Injury Update

Gronkowski (full back) briefly returned to action in Week 8 against the Saints, but was eventually ruled out early in the game after limited action. Since the Bucs were goodbye, there haven’t been any updates on his status, but maybe the week off was enough for him to regain his health. As with all those guys coming off a pass, we’ll be at the mercy of future injury reports this week.

Tampa is playing Washington in Week 10, and while they’re statistically a middle unit against TEs, they had one of the easiest schedules and largely avoided a ton of studs. That said, we love Gronk as our TE7 in PPR leagues and TE5 in standard leagues.

Chris Carson Injury Update

UPDATE: Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said on Monday that Carson would “in the field“Wednesday, but he also warned that they were taking him” one day at a time “with Carson.

Carson (neck) would be training this week if it was up to him, but it’s unclear if he will achieve his wish at this point in the week. There was originally no timeline for his return, and there have been worrying reports of his injury status, so we think he’s unlikely to return against Green Bay. If he’s supposed to play, we’ll update his status and our Week 10 RB Rankings.

However, that appears to be Alex Collins’ backfield as Carson remains out, but Rashaad Penny could eat his keys further. Overall, Collins is hard to be trusted, and we rank Collins as RB25 as standard and RB24 as PPR. Even though Collins is the workaholic, it’s hard to think he’ll have much success if Geno Smith stays the starter. Quarterback success often leads to running back success.

Antonio Brown Injury Update

UPDATE: Brown was still in a walking boot Monday.

Brown (ankle) is set to return in Week 10 against Washington, so those who got him cheaply in the preseason draft will reap the rewards again.

Washington being the third worst defense against Fantastic WRs, we rank Brown as WR14 in the PPR and WR12 leagues as standard. Truth be told, his advantage is the # 1 WR in all of fantasy, but his ground could be ultra-low following an injury in a crowded WR room. Having said that, it is obviously a must-have.

Logan Thomas Injury Update

Thomas (hamstring) has been out since Week 3, but he is reportedly back in training this week and is expected to play Week 10 against Tampa Bay. It is currently on nearly half of all Yahoo League waiver feeds, and you should post it as soon as you read this. It’s not common for a player with a top-five potential in their place to be available in week 10, so now is your chance to get a difference factor at the tight end if you don’t have one.

Tampa is the 11th worst defense against Fantastic Tight Ends, so we rank Thomas as our TE6 in PPR Leagues and TE7 in Standard Leagues.
