The FanDuel finance team had to make a few calls about this $20 million loss.
A series of bettors on a Discord channel caught wind of a crazy special parlay hosted by FanDuel, with the winning bet being for each team to score a field goal at 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 4:25 p.m. ET. the Windows.
The results were gigantic on Sunday with tons of scores from all teams and bettors rejoicing in what was probably one of the biggest wins in sports betting history.
One punter in particular, known simply as “JD” @JDGoldBoys on X, formerly known as Twitter, pointed this out on the platform, writing that it was “worth a buck.”
It appears the bettors made a lot of money, as tickets flowed in and bets were won after the Broncos-Commanders game ended.
The bettor who pointed it out, JD, appears to have won $318,300 alone – a drop in the bucket compared to the $20 million FanDuel lost on this one.
Interestingly enough, DraftKings offered the same bet but at a very different price than FanDuel.
DraftKings priced a field goal made by each team at just 30:1, a far cry from the 200:1 that FanDuel had it priced at.
The flood of money forced FanDuel traders to change their prices which appeared to have fallen to 130:1, which was still a bit too low, it seems.
Betting on the NFL?
These bettors can thank the Jets, who had a first down at the Dallas 21, but a Zach Wilson spike on 2nd and 5 forced a conservative throw, which was almost intercepted, on third down.
On fourth down, replacement kicker Austin Seibert made a 34-yard field goal, and the gamble was now easily within reach.
Each of the Broncos and Commanders made field goals before halftime, so the bet was already won around 6 p.m. ET on Sunday.
FanDuel has been flooded with responses from winning tickets at huge prizes.
