Famous rapper’s lawyer mocked after claiming ‘thug’ meant ‘truly humiliated before God’ in gang trial

An attorney for Atlanta-based artist Young Thug, whose first name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, went viral for claiming that the “thug” in the rapper’s name meant “truly humble before God.”

“He insisted everyone call him Young Thug…and that fits the look of gangster rap. But most people think of a thug as a criminal. But to Jeffrey, Thug had a different meaning,” said said attorney Brian Steel.

Steel is defending his client in a RICO case, an acronym derived from a federal law called the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, which created enhanced penalties to deal with the alleged illegal activities of those engaged in organized crime.

“Thug wanted to say something very personal… If you could ever succeed as a musical artist and help his family, himself and so many others out of this endless cycle of despair. He would be truly humbled by God. That’s what Thug means,” the thug said. said the lawyer.

Steel also argued in court Tuesday that Young Thug suffered from low self-esteem because of all the candy he ate that rotted his teeth, and said that’s why we often showed him covering his mouth. Steel also said that the rapper wasn’t a gamer type per se and was quite shy.

Steel said one of Young Thug’s songs brought up by the prosecution during the trial, “Pushin’ P,” meant “pushing positivity.”

The song’s lyrics said: “She’s ready to take to the streets for me, without a doubt (of course).”

“I just fucked a cup of water (I did)/ Pushin’ P, red bandana, Cardinals.”

The lawyer’s explanation for “Pushin’ P” and the name “Young Thug” went viral online, with many users taking to TikTok and Truly Humble Under God.”

“I want to give my Lawyer of the Year award to Young Thug’s lawyer because of his performance in court today about the legendary, iconic Young Thug,” said Jack Mac , TikTok user, who has 735,000 subscribers on the platform. “He’s not kidding. When I heard this lawyer say Pushin’ P meant pushing positivity, I lost it.”

“She ain’t a lesbian, to P she becomes a Pesbian (Pushin’ P, I push P),” the song said. “I bought new hammers for my P, we don’t want peace.”

“It means that in any circumstance that you’re in, if you think positively about something, you can make it work. You’re pushing positivity. You’re pushing the P,” Steel said.

After achieving success in rap as a teenager, Young Thug launched his open record label, Young Stoner Life, or YSL. Artists on his label are considered part of the “Slime Family”, and a compilation album, “Slime Language 2”, reached number one on the charts in April 2021.

However, prosecutors said YSL also stands for Young Slime Life, which they say is a violent Atlanta-based street gang affiliated with the national Bloods gang and founded by Young Thug and two others in 2012.
