The Senegal international has agreed to continue his career in Turkey’s top flight after spending four years in the EFL championship
Turkish Super Lig club Alanyaspor have announced the signing of Famara Diedhiou on a four-year contract.
Diedhiou made a free transfer to Bahcecehir Okullari Stadium on Monday after leaving EFL Championship squad Bristol City at the end of his contract in May.
The 28-year-old is expected to compete with compatriot Khouma Babacar and Mauritanian El Mami Tetah in Semih Tokatli’s squad in the 2021-22 campaign.
Last season, the Senegalese star scored eight goals in 40 league appearances for Bristol City who finished 19th in the league table.
He revealed that there are several offers from all over the world, but he chose Alanyaspor and he is ready to contribute to the success of the team.
“I am very happy to be here. Alanyaspor was a team that I believed in the project,” said Diedhiou the club website.
“There were offers from all over the world, but during the negotiations I first put Alanyaspor on the table. I chose Alanyaspor and I am very happy to be here. And I promise to do my best.
Meanwhile, Alanyaspor chairman Hasan Cavusoglu described Diedhiou’s signing as a great addition to their squad and he also provided an update on Senegalese Khouma Babacar, who suffered a heart spasm during a training session earlier this month.
“Congratulations to our club and to Famara. He had a lot of suitors, ”Cavusolgu said.
“However, he preferred Alanyaspor, saying that we are a well-managed and planned club. This is important football. I think he will contribute to our team. Babacar’s treatment process continues. He will return to the pitch. as soon as possible. We will have another striker. Good luck. “
Alanyaspor are set to face Adana Demirspor, Hatayspor, Fatih Karagumruk and Rizespor in their pre-season friendlies before opening their 2021-22 Turkish Super Lig campaign with an away game against Istanbul Basaksehir on August 14.
Diedhiou, born in Senegal, started his professional career in France and spent time in Sochaux, Angers, Clermnt, ASM Belfort and Ajaccio before settling in Bristol in 2017.
He is a member of Aliou Cisse’s national team and he played in their friendly 3-1 victory over Zambia in June. He has four goals to his name for the Teranga Lions.
