Making exercise a daily habit can seem daunting if you feel like it only matters when you go all out. Instead, remember that every little move counts.

Simple actions like standing at your desk for part of the day, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, and throwing out the trash can make a difference to your overall health.

If you want to start building a routine, try doing a minute of sit-ups, push-ups or squats at the end of every hour – it will add up! “Even a minute — that’s all it really takes to get the blood flowing and get you out of the work mindset and feeling great,” says Salina Duggan, a Seattle-based personal trainer.

You don’t have to be a marathon runner or a gym rat to get significant health benefits from exercise. Remember that when you take a 10-minute walk, you’re still breaking in the version of you that didn’t go at all.
