Eurovision 2023: Liverpool to host next year’s contest on behalf of Ukraine, BBC says

The English city of Liverpool will host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, the BBC has announced.

It comes after Britain was asked to host the event on behalf of designated host country Ukraine.

The BBC said earlier in the week that the competition would be held either in Liverpool or Glasgow.

Scotland’s largest city and the birthplace of the Beatles were named the two finalists from seven UK cities who applied.

Ukraine won the right to host the glitzy pan-continental music competition when its entry, folk-rap ensemble Kalush Orchestra, won this year’s competition in May. Briton Sam Ryder finished second.

Organizers concluded it was too risky to hold the event in Ukraine, so the 2023 contest went to Britain, which says the event will be a celebration of Ukrainian culture and creativity.

It is a story of rupture. Please refresh the page for updates.
