Eure: two children die in a house fire, a third seriously injured

Two children died early Saturday morning in a house fire in Selles (Eure) where they were with their family to spend the end-of-year holidays, AFP learned from the Eure prefecture. .

The victims, a girl about 8 years old and a boy about ten years old, had not been able to get out of the burning building and were in cardio-respiratory arrest when the firefighters managed to evacuate them. A third child, also in cardio-respiratory arrest, was revived. The young girl, aged about twelve, was evacuated to a Parisian hospital “in absolute urgency”.

Five adults and two children were able to get out in time

In total, five adults and five children, four generations of the same family reunited for Christmas, were in this second home near Pont-Audemer, said AFP Isabelle Dorliat-Pouzet, secretary general of the prefecture of the ‘Eure. The firefighters were alerted to the incident around 3:45 a.m. and arrived quickly on the scene, but the fire was already very advanced and the Norman farmhouse was engulfed in flames. An investigation has been opened to determine the causes of the fire, which “remain unknown at this stage”, added Isabelle Dorliat-Pouzet.
