How did you experience this day of tribute four years after the death of your idol (December 9, 2017)?
This day, which is going very well, began with a little drizzle, just to give a little Breton note to this tribute. I also find that the term “reunion” is more appropriate than “tribute”, because it had been four years since we had seen each other again between all the fans, while we saw each other regularly during his concerts.
During this tribute, did we see you discussing with Laeticia Hallyday?
For ten minutes, we notably came back to Johnny’s passage to Vieilles Charrues, in 2006. I told him about my book “Johnny, my island and me” (Coop Breizh), which will be released on October 20. Tonight, during concerts at the Accor Arena, I will be in a dressing room alongside him with ten other people, including Anne Hidalgo… And I will offer them sailor shirts and Armor Lux hats.
This book is about an admirer who has a totally changed life thanks to Johnny
Why such a tribute to Johnny paid to the Accor Arena, in Bercy: an esplanade bearing his name, the inauguration of the statue and Johnny’s bar, an evening entitled “Johnny that I love you” …
From a financial standpoint, not all fans have the money to travel to St. Barts, where the singer is buried. It is normal that it is in front of the Accor Arena, because it has played there 101 times. In this room, I saw him twenty times, and my best memory remains 1992 when he arrived on stage on a motorcycle against the backdrop of “I am not a hero” by Daniel Balavoine.
What do you think of the 6m tall statue in the shape of a guitar neck with a Harley Davidson belonging to the singer at the top?
Most fans would have hoped for something else, but it’s better than nothing. We would indeed have liked a body in motion. With his arms, he would have spread his wings like an eagle and he would have had his head tilted forward, as if to better embrace his fans. However, you should know that Johnny did not like his body to be represented in the form of a statue. Laeticia therefore respected the choice of Taulier.
What do you think of the absence of her daughter, Laura, and her son, David, on this tribute day?
We, the fans, love them and we would have liked this day to be one of reconciliation …
If you had to summarize the content of your book?
It is the story of two men: one who is on stage and another by the sea. But the common point remains all these meetings that we have lived during these 50 years. This book is about an admirer who has a totally changed life thanks to Johnny. Without him, I might never have left my island (Molène) and I didn’t want to. I wanted to live on my island but above all not to be locked up there.
