Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has revealed that Jadon Sancho will miss his Premier League debut.
He is also unsure about the availability of recent World Cup winner Lisandro Martinez, but believes progress is being made at the club.
Sancho has been training away from the club’s Carrington training center for the past few weeks, and Ten Hag has already given candid answers when asked about his return.
The United manager has now said, via BBC Sport, that he doesn’t expect the 22-year-old to play against Nottingham Forest next week: “I don’t think so.”
He added: “He’s been here continuously, all season, working with the coaching staff.
“He works with the team and the staff. One of his tasks is to create the right mindset for the individuals and the team.
Summer signing Martinez has been superb during his time at the club so far and will be very confident after winning the World Cup with Argentina.
But Ten Hag has urged the centre-back to focus fully on Manchester United when he returns from celebrations in his homeland.

“I don’t know. I couldn’t answer,” Ten Hag replied when asked if Martinez will play in his next match.
“He is always celebrating in Argentina. I can understand that it is very moving. Winning the World Cup for your country is magnificent, as high as possible.
“But Martinez must also accept that on the 27th the Premier League will continue.”
United currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, an impressive position given their mixed start to the season.
They’ve had their ups and downs over the campaign, but Ten Hag is optimistic about their ability to finish in the Champions League places.
“We are aware that the competition is tough, but that also counts for the seven or eight clubs that are fighting for the top four.
“For anyone who watches the Premier League, it’s great for them, it’s very exciting for them. You have to fight for every duel to get your points. I’m looking at a process of our performance.
“Of course we have to get the results as well, but the process is good, we are progressing and I think we have a good opportunity and a good chance to get into that top four.”
United’s first game after the World Cup saw them beat Burnley 2-0 in the Carabao Cup.
They will now face League One Charlton in the quarter-finals, with the club seeking their first trophy since 2017.
