Emily Blunt Says Tom Cruise’s Vulgar Advice Helped Her Get Through Tears on ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Set

Tom Cruise played more than an action hero on set with Emily Blunt for their 2014 sci-fi action flick “Edge of Tomorrow.”
Blunt, 39, recalled some of his personal struggles working with Cruise on the film while chatting on the “Smartless” podcast with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes.
Known for more roles in the rom-com genre, Blunt was branching out into another area of filmmaking with the sci-fi film about an alien invasion and time jumping.
“It was my first foray into acting, and as Tom said, rather unreassuringly when we started it, he said, ‘That’s the deep end of acting for me. And I was like, if you say that, then we’re in trouble,” she recalled being on set with Cruise.

“We had to wear these really huge robotic suits, which would have been great if they could use them in CGI, but we wanted to do it in a hands-on, tactile way,” she said.
“When you hear the word touch, you’re like, it sounds good and comfortable. There was nothing comfortable about wearing those suits.”

Emily admitted that her wardrobe for the film weighed “about 85 pounds. It was so heavy the first time I put it on I started crying in front of Tom.”

She remembered Cruise standing there, staring at her in her metal suit, not knowing what to do.
“He just looked at me and said, ‘I know, I know,’ and I was like, ‘I don’t know how I’m going to get through this shoot,’ and I started crying,” said she declared. . “I was like, ‘I just feel a little freaked out about the whole shoot.'”

“He literally walks away, he looked at me for a long time not knowing what to do, and he said, ‘Come on, stop being such a p—y, okay?'”

Emily Blunt freaked out on the ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ set, but Tom Cruise talked her out of it out of fear.

Blunt added, “And I laughed, and then we got away with it.”
There were no hard feelings towards the ‘Top Gun’ star, as Emily readily admitted, “He’s so brilliant in it.”
