What a goddamn mess that was made in Easttown.
Easttown mare concluded Sunday by explaining who actually killed Erin McMenamin (Cailee Spaeny) and how, and then explain it once again. It wasn’t, as everyone thought at the end of the last episode, Erin’s cousin Billy Ross (Robbie tann). Nor was it, as everyone thought at the start of this episode, Erin’s cousin, John Ross (Joe tippett), despite being the real father of Erin’s baby. It was actually young Ryan Ross (Cameron Mann), John’s son, who accidentally shot Erin as he tried to keep his family from breaking up again. He was just trying to scare her with a gun, and she exploded when she tried to snatch it from him.
What an absolute disappointment.
For the first half of the final, Mare (Kate winslet) was pretty sure John was the culprit. He was shown in bed with Erin in a photo she kept in her journal (the mysterious photo from the end of the last episode), and then when confronted with this he was eerily calm and outspoken. He confessed to the relationship and killed her, and asked his poor wife Lori (Julianne Nicholson) to care for the baby for him, which sounded like a truly insane request from the man who had just killed the teenager he got pregnant.
