MOUNT HEALTHY, Ohio – A Dunkin ‘Donuts employee received the surprise of a lifetime from a loyal customer: a fully furnished home.
Three years ago, Ebony Johnson met client Suzanne Burke at a Dunkin drive-thru. The two became close, talking every time Burke had his morning coffee.
“I go there every morning,” said Burke. “Ebony has been in the drive-thru service for three years and really provided exceptional customer service.”
Recently, however, Burke noticed that her friend was not working her regular shift. She contacted Johnson, learning that the mother-of-three had been going through tough times and had been evicted from her Mount Healthy home.
With the help of different organizations, Burke was able to find a house and furniture for Johnson’s family.
“I just wanted to see if I could help him improve his life and the lives of his children,” said Burke. “I wanted to make sure they had stable housing, so she could continue to provide the excellent service she does. At Dunkin ‘.”
Johnson saw his home furnished for the first time on Friday.
” Thank you very much to all. Thank you so much for helping me, ”Johnson said.
Burke teamed up with set designer Jo Potvin of Design to Market to make sure the house was perfect for Johnson’s family.
“[It’s the] perfect time of year to feel like you’re spreading the joy, ”said Potvin.
They also received help from New Life Furniture Bank, an organization that accepts household items and makes them available free of charge to those in need.
“It’s as much a gift for us as it is for them to be able to give them this,” said Dana Saxton, Managing Director.
Johnson’s children were just as excited as their mother.
“So nice, so nice,” said her youngest son, looking at his new bedroom.
With a house fully furnished, Johnson said she and her children can have a merry Christmas and enjoy the rest of the holidays.
“I am so grateful that we are back in our house,” Johnson said. “The Lord really took care of me because I kept praying and saying, ‘Could I be home before Christmas?’ “
