The football season is off to a good start, but some young Nashville players have struggled. The students and staff at John Early Middle School haven’t had enough gear or the right gear in a while, but thanks to a Titans player, they’ll be well-equipped for their next game.
Defensive back Lonnie Johnson Jr. presented a check for $4,000 to football team coach John Early Middle on Tuesday.
Coach Omar Edwards said last year the team had 18 players but only ten helmets. They therefore had to share helmets and shoulder pads.
Edwards said the money was a blessing for the team.
“Just to see that the heroes [are] really alive and really exists. They love football; they love the Titans. And seeing a Titan come here and bless them with something they’ve been asking for and really wanting for a long time is like having dreams come true for them,” Edwards said.
The kids also got to shake hands and talk with Johnson, who said it was an exciting time for everyone.
