Depp v Heard: Actress wore make-up kit ‘at all times’ to cover bruises, court told | Ents & Arts News

Photographs of Amber Heard with red marks, bruises and swelling on her face – the result she says was her last fight with Johnny Depp – were shown in court.

It came like Heard told jurors of the “torture” of reliving “the most intimate, embarrassing, deeply humiliating and personal things” she had ever been through.

On Monday, she concluded her deposition, with a third day focusing on the final months of her marriage to Depp.

The trial is now in its fifth week, and jurors have seen several photos of Heard throughout, which purport to document the abuse she said she suffered during their relationship.

Several of the photos shown on Monday had not previously been seen by the jury and showed redness and swelling much more clearly than previous photos.

But on cross-examination, Depp’s attorney, Camille Vasquez, disputed the claims and asked why no photograph had been produced of any particular moment. Heard said Depp hit her so hard she “thought her nose was broken”.

In response, Heard told the court, “It’s not mine.”

Depp is suing Heard in Fairfax County Circuit Court just outside of Washington DC, for defamation over a December 2018 op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post describing herself as “a public figure representing the domestic violence”.

‘Bruise Kit’

His lawyers say he was defamed by the article even though he never mentioned his name.

Heard described in court the makeup routine she used to conceal the marks, as well as how she used ice and arnica (a homeopathic remedy for bruising) to ‘reduce swelling’ .

She said she had a theatrical color correction kit she called her “bruise kit”, which she says “I carried with me all the time”.

Heard explained, “The idea is that you want to counteract the color of the bruise.”

She described the different colors of bruises over time, saying: “The immediate is red, the red shows up right away, so you want to go the opposite way on the color wheel, dabbing a bit of green … After a day or two you get more purple, so you want to go with more red tones.”

Depp says he never hit Heard and that she is cooking up allegations that she was abused.

‘Happy fucking birthday’

But in a moment of testimony, Heard described her 30th birthday in April 2016 and an argument she says she and Depp had that night after her party.

During it, she said Depp “punched my chest”, “pushed me to the ground” and “grabbed me by the pubic area”. She said he often grabbed her there and asked her if she thought she was “tough, like a man.”

She said Depp left, then came back and shouted “Happy f****** birthday”.

Other points from today in court:
• Heard strongly denied an accusation by Depp that she left human feces in the couple’s bed after a fight
• Heard had pledged to pay her a $7million divorce settlement to charity and started doing so in installments, but said that when Depp sued her in March 2019 for $50million dollars, she stopped
• Court hears lawyer called in to review Washington Post op-ed

Depp v Heard: Who is really telling the truth?

Speaking about the legal process, Heard said: “Every time I watch [at the statements] which is to say everyday, I’m in withdrawal, I have to relive it… I have to relive the worst, most painful things I’ve ever been through – and sometimes narrowly survived.”

She continued: “Again and again the most intimate, embarrassing, deeply humiliating and personal things that I have survived are used against me.

Heard collapsed during her testimony on Monday

“It’s torture, I’m in so much emotional pain.

“Why would you do that? I want to get on with my life. I have a baby, I want to move on, I want Johnny to move on too. Come on, leave me alone.”

Earlier, she also told the court that she was ‘losing hair, losing weight, getting sick’.

However, in disputing his statements, an appearance in December 2015 when Heard appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden, has been brought up.

The previous night, Heard alleged that Depp violently attacked her, injuring her face and lip.

But Depp’s attorney, Ms Vasquez, showed the court photos and a short video of Heard’s appearance on the show, and again pointed to the lack of visible damage to her face.
