Cold snap next week
A COLD snap could see the return of snow as early as next week.
“Winter showers” will accompany freezing temperatures and freezing fog from Tuesday – with the possibility of a sprinkle of white stuff.
Charts for January 24 show a 50-60% chance of snow in the Scottish Highlands, with a 25% chance in northern England.
The mercury will also drop significantly, to zero in the south east, -1C in the Midlands and -2C in parts of Wales.
The Met Office’s long-term forecast for the end of the month to February says: “This period is likely to see a gradual transition to more unstable conditions.
“The heaviest rainfall is likely to occur in the northwest, particularly later in the period, while drier than average conditions are more likely to prevail in the southeast, particularly earlier in the period. the period.
“Episodes of strong winds are likely, mainly in the north.
“Temperatures are likely to be slightly above average overall. Colder interludes are however expected, bringing a chance of occasional snowfall, most likely over the northern hills.”
