“Once again, our country was rocked yesterday when a gunman entered a Nashville elementary school and murdered three nine-year-old children and three staff members,” the letter read Tuesday. “Last July, the Judiciary Committee marked a ban on assault weapons and the bill passed the House with bipartisan support. We need to take the same action this Congress and quickly bring the ban on weapons storming to the markup and to the floor of the Chamber for a vote.”
There have already been 129 mass shootings in the United States this year, the letter says.

“We know the danger these weapons pose to our communities, and that banning them is an effective way to reduce gun violence and gun-related deaths in our country. assault weapons in 1994 was associated with a 25% drop in gun killings and a 40% drop in deaths,” the letter said.
