Debbie Harry rocked the Met Gala red carpet in a patriotic dress perfectly suited to the 2021 show’s “American Independence” theme.
As well as being the biggest night in the fashion world, often compared to the Oscars, the New York event is a fundraiser for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and coincides with the opening of a new exhibition annually, in this case the first of “In America: A Fashion Lexicon.”
Proving she understood the mission, Blondie’s co-founder, 76, arrived at the event dressed in a red, white and blue ensemble that reflected a tattered American flag in what was surely one of the most literal interpretations of the theme of the event. The dress was framed in what appears to be a waist-to-floor metallic thread skirt that was lined with ragged red and white striped fabric that gave the illusion that the battle flag was fluttering in the wind.

In addition, she was wearing a dark blue denim jacket. The only thing missing were the stars, but there was at least one overall, Harry herself, who sported a blonde shoulder length cut and dark red lipstick.

The dress was an original and personalized outfit made by designer Zac Posen. Page Six previously revealed Posen will be designing her outfit after being spotted together in New York over the weekend at an exhibition of the work of New York Times photographer Bill Cunningham.

The outlet notes that Posen is no stranger to turning heads on the Met Gala red carpet with his high fashion looks. Previously, he had dressed Claire Danes in a dress with fiber optics on the 2016 runway show. Fast-forward to 2019 and he spent a day in the field with the show’s “Camp” theme dressing the stars.
