DeBary man hiding dagger in shoe stopped by courthouse security

A DeBary man well known to law enforcement is in more trouble after he was caught with a dagger hidden in his shoe as he attempted to enter the Volusia County Courthouse on Friday. Austin Irvine was arrested by a deputy as he passed through security. The suspect was checked into the DeLand courthouse at approximately 11 a.m. He placed his things in a trash can, then ran through the magnetometer and was stopped short. The machine alerted on the feet of Irvine, 26, and he was asked to cross again, the same thing happened and Volusia County Sheriff’s Court Deputy Trevor Gamble asked to Irvine to take off his shoes to be x-rayed. The deputy saw an eight-inch knife – deputies called it a dagger – hidden in the sole of Irvine’s right shoe. The blade was four inches. Deputies say Irvine told them the shoes weren’t his and he didn’t know the knife was there. In September of last year, investigators said Irvine became the subject of Florida’s red flag law after he allegedly fired a shotgun at people who did not exist at his home in DeBary. MPs successfully secured a risk protection order against him, preventing him from having firearms and ammunition, however, it does not apply to other weapons and is due to expire in September. Irvine is charged with a misdemeanor for carrying a concealed weapon into the courthouse. The bond is $500.
