Death after multiple vehicle crash near Deming

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A man from Las Cruces died after a fatal accident involving several vehicles in Luna County just east of Deming on Tuesday evening. New Mexico State Police said a 2006 Ford Explorer SUV, manned by a 21-year-old driver and two passengers, a 41-year-old female and a 13-year-old minor, was traveling west on the ‘Interstate 10 near kilometer 105 when their SUV suffered a flat tire.

According to the NMSP, the Ford came to a stop in the right lane and was struck by a Freightliner semi-truck heading west. After the crash, the semi-trailer rolled onto its side and was struck by two other semi-trailers also traveling westbound. Freightliner driver Daniel Quintana, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the NMSP.

The NMSP says the three occupants of the Ford and the drivers of the other two semi-trailers involved were not injured. The NMSP says alcohol does not appear to be a factor and the seat belts appear to have only been used by the three tractor-trailer drivers. The accident is still under investigation. No further information was provided.
