VSeen from the first days, the summer school holidays can look like a long journey of endless empty afternoons and abandoned art projects. With that in mind, there might come a time when looking at the abject DC Super League-Pets may briefly seem like a good idea. But then, at the end of the holiday, shoving cutlery into power outlets might seem like a good idea.
This animated spin-off posits that when baby Superman was launched into space from the dying planet of Krypton, his pup hitchhiked alongside him. Fast forward, and the pair share everything, including superpowers. But Superman’s budding romance with Lois Lane results in Krypto the super-dog (Dwayne Johnson) momentarily averting his eyes from the squeaky pet toy, allowing a power-crazed, hairless guinea pig to wreak havoc in the city. It’s stereotypical, uninspired stuff, a naive, joyless mess that relies heavily on character familiarity – Batman, Wonder Woman, and other cameos – while undermining the integrity of the DC Universe.
