Terry’s crews has his sculptural physique and a bit of serendipity to thank for helping launch his acting career two decades ago.
For many, the former 6’2 ‘NFL player appeared overnight when he became one of the stars of the comedy “White Chicks” in 2004. However, Crews actually got the one of his most notable acting roles two years ago while appearing in the third installment of rapper-actor Ice Cube’s “Friday” franchise.
DC comedian Curry, who played Uncle Elroy as Cube Craig in the movies, has revealed the unexpected story of how Crews was in the right place at the right time to land the gig.
“We were shooting, I think it was ‘Friday After Next’, and Tiny [Tommy Lister Jr. who played Deebo] had a showdown, so the producer went out to get the director, ”Curry shared during his appearance on“ The Big Tigger Morning Show ”. Curry went on to explain how Lister’s explosion ultimately cost him his role in the film. “He [the director] said, ‘Dude, go get Cube.’ Cube got out of his trailer and had his little talk with Tiny. Tiny was, you know, acting.
With Lister released, the film still needed a physically dominant male character to upset Cube and the characters of his co-star Mike Epps. Luckily for production, Crews wasn’t far off.
“Terry Crews was the valet for us, he was over there parking cars in a tiny little shirt, muscles bulging all over the place. Ice Cube came out of the parking lot and asked Terry Crews, “Hey, can you play? The crews said ‘Yeah’, and that was the start of Terry’s film career, ”Curry recalls.
Although Crews himself didn’t mention how he was cast in the film, he has spoken openly about his acting debut. “My transition to acting was out of necessity,” Crews explained, while breaking down his career at Vanity Fair in 2020. “I had moved to LA to get behind the scenes in entertainment and went bankrupt. “
Crews currently hosts “America’s Got Talent” which has made him an even better known name in addition to his many film and television roles throughout his career.
