Czechs and Americans withdraw from the World Cup

The Egyptian handball world championship (from January 13 to 31) did not even start until two teams were forced, Tuesday January 12, to give it up: the Czech (group G) and American (group E) selections, decimated by cases of Covid-19.

About fifteen players have tested positive among the Czechs, 18 cases among USA Team handball including the coach, making it impossible for the two teams to participate in the competition.

These packages benefit North Macedonia, which replaces the Czechs thanks to its 15e place at the last Euro, and Switzerland (16e), USA Team handball substitute who was to meet France on Monday January 18.

In the event of further withdrawals, four other European nations stand ready, said the International Handball Federation: the Netherlands, Montenegro, Ukraine and Serbia.

These two packages are a new blow for the organizers of the World Cup who have already had to give up, Sunday, the reception of the public in the four sites of the competition.
