Cristiano Ronaldo’s love for his country made him fail the lie detector test and he thinks no one will be able to improve on his current goalscoring record.
The 38-year-old took part in a lie detector test for one of his sponsors, cryptocurrency firm Binance.
One of the questions posed to Ronaldo was whether he would ever manage to get his hands on the ultimate prize that eludes him: the World Cup.
After thinking it over, the former Manchester United star then proudly said he would.
However, the results revealed that he was lying. This caused Ronaldo to smile and add: “What a pessimist, huh?”
It’s unclear if he will play at USA 2026 but he remains a key part of Portugal’s squad and will be involved in his country’s upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers.
He was then asked if anyone would break his record of 850 career goals.
The Al Nassr star of course replied, “No”, but the results suggested otherwise.
Messi has scored 818 goals and is two years younger, at 36.
Whether the Argentine will surpass him or not remains to be seen, but 24-year-old Kylian Mbappe and 23-year-old Erling Haaland certainly have time to reach Ronaldo’s current tally.
Mbappé has 249 goals in all competitions and recently netted twice in Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-1 win at Lyon.
As Manchester City’s goalscoring machine, Haaland has 193 and counted, netting a hat-trick in his side’s 5-1 win over Fulham last weekend.
