Editor’s Note: The following arrest and incident reports were provided by the Abilene Police Department. All of the information below comes from reports written by responding officers, and all suspects are considered not guilty unless a court orders otherwise.
Incidents
Block 1700 Butternut Street – Assault, Domestic Violence
One victim reported being assaulted by her ex-boyfriend during a verbal argument.
1000 Block of N Judge Ely Blvd – Property Theft
A North Abilene business reported that a known suspect walked past an outlet without paying for food, beer and a bag worth approximately $125.
Block 2100 of Meadowbrook Drive – Motor Vehicle Theft
A victim reported that his vehicle was stolen by a known suspect. The vehicle was later recovered unoccupied.
4500 Block of S 1st Street – Property Theft
A South Abilene business reported that a known suspect stole money from their accounts.
4500 Block of S 1st Street – Electronic Device Identity Theft
A victim reported that a known suspect stole their identity and filed taxes under their name.
4400 Block of Buffalo Gap Road – Property Theft
A suspect was arrested after stealing food worth $133 from a grocery store in south Abilene.
Block 1300 of Graham Street – Burglary of a dwelling
A report was taken for burglary of a dwelling. A suspect stole $2,270 worth of items including a stove, generator, television, cordless drill, cooler, camera, air conditioner, cologne, stereo, refrigerator, power cord, grinder, hand saw, watch, tool box, fishing rod and coffee maker. , and projector.
1400 Block of N 19th Street – Property Theft
A victim reported that his $500 trailer was stolen.
Block 1000 of Poplar Street – Assault
A woman said she was assaulted near the 1000 block of Poplar Street.
1400 Block of Barrow Street – Assault
A victim was attacked by a known suspect in front of a fast food restaurant.
Block 800 of S La Salle Drive – Breach of Bail / Protective Order
A man was arrested for breach of bail and imprisoned.
Block 700 of N Judge Ely Blvd – Visually Invasive Recording
Officers responded to a disturbance at a north Abilene apartment and investigated allegations of improper visual recording.
Arrests
Roman McCree – Aggression Domestic Violence
McCree is accused of assaulting a victim during an argument by punching her in the face with a closed fist multiple times in the head and face. He also grabbed her by the neck, obstructing her airway and causing her to pass out.
Kerian Cooper – Aggression Domestic Violence
One victim reported that Cooper punched her in the face during a verbal argument.
Michael Cody – Mandate
Cody was contacted and arrested for an active warrant.
Edwin Smith – Property Theft
Smith is accused of taking $122 worth of merchandise from the store, and the theft was caught on camera.
Carey Gardner – Mandate
Gardner was contacted during a traffic stop for a faulty headlight and found to have an active warrant.
Odessa Merinos – Mandate
Merinos was contacted for an active warrant and arrested without incident.
Angel Lerma – Warrant, Reckless Driving, Possession of a Controlled Substance
Lerma was contacted for a known warrant and drove away from officers at high speed, crossing 4 lanes of traffic and continuing at high speed with no regard for public safety. A search of his person revealed 0.75 grams of a controlled substance.
Heather Swiney – Felon Unlawfully Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance
Swiney was contacted after she was found asleep inside a vehicle with the engine running. She was asked to get out of the vehicle and when she did, officers noticed a handgun under her seat and there was the smell of marijuana. A search revealed a stolen handgun, methamphetamine and marijuana.
Alfredo Holguin – Mandate
Holguin was contacted in reference to a traffic stop and was found to have multiple warrants.
Patricia Guerrero – Property Theft, Warrant
Guerrero is accused of stealing $133 worth of items from a grocery store in southern Abilene.
Robert Gonzalez – Mandate, lack of identification
Gonzalez was contacted and gave agents a false name on several occasions. He was identified by tattoos and his driver’s license photo. A verification of his real identity revealed that he had several warrants for his arrest.
Andrew Cordova – Possession of Controlled Substances, Fraudulent Use/Possession of Credentials, Failure to Maintain Financial Accountability
Cordova was contacted during a traffic stop for not stopping at a designated point. A K9 was called to the scene and alerted to the presence of narcotics. A search revealed methamphetamine and four debit cards with identifying information belonging to 4 people.
Mike Barber – Drunk Driving
Barber was seen in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked in the middle of the road and appeared to be passed out. When contacted, he showed several signs of intoxication and admitted to drinking a 12-pack of beers. He also attempted to kick an officer and kicked the hospital door more than 30 times.
