Covid-19 in Brittany: more than two out of 100 Bretons tested positive this week – Coronavirus

Like last week, the weekly health situation update for ARS Bretagne is incomplete. The regional health agency has not communicated the number of covid cases by department for a fortnight. Last week, Alain Le Tertre, head of the Breton unit of Public Health France, explained to the Telegram why this data was missing.

More than 80,000 contaminations in one week

What do the regional figures tell us? May the fifth wave, carried by the Omicron variant, continue its dazzling progression in Brittany. Last Friday, the record figure of 57,319 infections in one week was recorded. This week, record (again) broken: 82,250 new positive cases were identified in seven days.

Incidence rate passes 2,000 mark

The incidence rate also continues to increase at full speed. Last week it was 1,639.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants but now exceeds the 2,000 mark. This week, ARS Bretagne recorded an incidence rate of 2,146.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This means more than two in 100 Britons have tested positive this week.

The Breton incidence rate remains however much lower than the national one, currently 2,828.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

In our departments, it is Ille-et-Vilaine which displays the highest incidence rate (2,628.9), close to the national average. Morbihan is the second Breton department above the 2,000 threshold, with an incidence rate of 2,173.9. Finally, Finistère and Côtes d’Armor have almost identical incidence rates, respectively 1,779.3 and 1,795.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

The positivity rate up very slightly

The positivity rate, which provides information on the evolution of the circulation of the virus independently of the number of tests carried out, increases very slightly. It goes from 17.8 to 18.1%.

Fewer covid-19 patients in intensive care

672 hospitalizations for covid are in progress in Brittany, including 81 in intensive care. If the number of hospitalizations increased in one week (+87), that of intensive care admissions decreased (-6). This week, 28 people died of covid in Brittany.
