Coronavirus: vaccine approval for children expected

OTTAWA – The federal government is set to announce Friday that Health Canada has approved the COVID-19 vaccine for children aged five to 11.

It is also expected to announce the relaxation of certain COVID-19 measures at the Canadian border.

The federal government has scheduled a press conference with officials for 10 a.m. Friday to share news regarding the authorization of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for children.

Officials will also provide an update on the recommendations of the National Advisory Committee on Immunization.

On Friday afternoon, federal ministers are expected to discuss easing measures taken to prevent the importation of new cases across the border.

They should remove the rule that requires travelers on short trips to the United States to present a negative COVID-19 molecular test in order to re-enter the country.

More details to come.
